There’s been a lot of buzz in the Canadian tech space as start-ups are making creative contributions to the industry. Just last week, Uberflip was listed in the PROFIT HOT 50 as one of Canada’s fastest growing New Growth Company. Here’s an overview of 10 compelling Canadian tech start-ups and their innovative business ideas that are quickly making an impact in the tech world.

HootSuite

HootSuite is a social media management tool that allows businesses and organizations to execute campaigns across multiple social networks from one web-based dashboard. HootSuite allows users to launch marketing campaigns, identify and grow audiences, and distribute targeted messages through their dashboard. Hootsuite’s features include scheduling and assignment tools that reach audiences with geo-targeting functionality. Also, the platform can generate custom reports through its social analytics measurement tools. Hootsuite currently has over 3.5 million customers with a wide array of users, from governmental bodies to global organizations such as Pepsi.

Shopify

Shopify offers a hosted ecommerce solution that allows users to create and run their own online store. Shopify makes it easy for anyone to sell their products online without needing to develop a complicated e-commerce site. Users simply pick an ecommerce website template and list their products, and they can use the site to receive credit card payments and to ship their goods. The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Fast Company, and Mashable are just a few brands that are using Shopify for their e-commerce solution.

Beyond the Rack

Beyond the Rack is a private shopping club for women and men that provides authentic designer brand apparel and accessories at prices that are up to 80% off retail. Each event lasts about 48 hours and the discounted merchandise is only available during those times. Members are notified by email before each event. As a member-based program, users can join Beyond the Rack through invitation by a friend, special invitation from marketing partners, or through a membership request. Beyond the Rack has been featured by an array of companies, such as eTalk, CNBC, USA Today, and People Magazine.

Wattpad

Wattpad is a story-sharing platform where users can discover and share stories. Wattpad users can interact and share stories across text, video, images, and through conversations with other readers and writers. Wave Accounting launched in November 2010 and has secured over $7 million in funding. They continue to sign up tens of thousands of small business customers each month.

Pinerly

Pinerly integrates with Pinterest and allows users to post visual content from any website. Users can also measure how their content performs after it’s posted and they can optimize their content, posting times, and descriptions to drive more traffic. Pinerly is a great analytics tool for businesses as it manages and measures their marketing efforts on Pinterest.

GoInstant

GoInstant allows two or more people to co-browse the web together. It’s completely interactive and all participants can type, click, browse and scroll together. Once you have an account, you’re able to co-browse with anyone – all you and your participants need is a supported web browser. GoInstant was founded in 2010, and was recently acquired by SalesForce – congrats guys!

Fluid Surveys

FluidSurveys is a do-it-yourself online survey tool that allows customers to create their own surveys, collect data from respondents, and analyze results. Their web survey tools are designed to be intuitive so that all users can make the most of the platform. The company prides itself in superior customer service and a highly skilled software developer team. FluidSurvey’s clients include Groupon, Scotiabank, CocaCola, and New York University.

FreshBooks

FreshBooks mission is to deliver fast and simple invoicing and time tracking services that help companies manage their business. The company believes in quick and easy financial recording, simple billing, safe data, and good customer service. With 4.5 million users, this Canadian start-up definitely makes an impression.
