Chances are if you are reading this then you know what a blog is. For those of us in social media and marketing, blogs are often one of our primary sources for discovering what’s new in the world. Additionally, they are great for connecting with people across the globe to share our ideas and exchange thoughts. Blogs can be radically different from one another, but they fundamentally consist of text and/or images pertaining to a particular topic; however, this is not the only form that blogs come in.
Video blogs – also known as ‘vlogs’ or ‘video podcasts’ – are essentially doing the same thing as blogs but in a very different way. Instead of writing a blog post, a vlogger films his or her posts in order to create a more engaging and immersive experience for the reader (or in this case, the viewer). Much like blogs, vlogs can be from anyone and about anything the vlogger chooses to post — from beauty tips to sports to weekly reports from the President and everything in between.
One popular vlog topic – and perhaps not surprising giving the nature of its format – is technology. However, with so many vlogs to choose from, it can be quite daunting for someone new to vlogs to determine which ones to watch and subscribe to. But don’t worry! We have identified some entertaining and informative tech vlogs that we think our readers will love.
Hosted by Cali Lewis, GeekBeat presents the latest and coolest updates from the tech world in a 5 minute video at least 3 times per week (and one live show on Fridays). Lewis is known for her bubbly and upbeat personality, which translates into a fun experience for the viewer. Despite its professional and high quality production, GeekBeat has a strong sense of play, typically featuring bloopers at various points during each video.
Originally consisting of self-produced videos on YouTube, Jon Rettinger has grown TechnoBuffalo into a leading technology news, reviews and editorial website. At the core of TechnoBuffalo, however, remains its strongest component: its vlog. Along with his growing number of vloggers, Rettinger celebrates technology (mainly smartphones and tablets) with product unboxings, editorials (known as Rettinger’s Rants), news and reviews. The vlog also nurtures a close relationship with its audience by giving tours of its office, offering advice to aspiring vloggers, and even inspiration on issues such as bullying.
